This is not merely an exploration of the poetry and world of the great poet and scholar of the East. It is a way to comprehend the Talent and Genius of this thinker, to experience his profound perception of Life. In a time when human and national relations have been reduced to the realms of politics and profit, to a earthbound view of life, offering the audience a True Experiencing of living, and gifting them the Talent and Flight of the Spirit, seems to us the very essence of what can restore the world to Inner Harmony and Peace.
The poet Omar Khayyam not only reflects on a life filled with both tragic and exalted moments but transforms it through the power of his Talent and Inspiration.
Here’s a more literary revision of your text:
Everything that unfolds on stage, the life born from the poet's words, is delivered to the audience as a poetic allegory. It is a life that, even on its final day, is lived with a fullness and brilliance befitting the great son of the East—poet, scholar, and thinker—Imam Giyas ad-Din Abu-l Fath Omar ibn Ibrahim, known to the world as Khayyam.
The narrative of the poem, like this production, centers around the final days of the Poet’s life, as he recalls the memories of his lifetime. With the power of his God-given talent and sublime poetry, he recreates before the audience not just the timeline of his past but breathes new life into those events, rendering them spiritually rich and poetically exalted. In his final days, at the age of 83, Omar Khayyam relives the passions of his youth with a fervent thirst for love. He once again experiences his deep love for a young woman, Maina, her tragic death, and the birth of their daughter, Munisa—whom he later loses as she vanishes into the night, following the caravan trails along the Great Silk Road.
The audience is taken on a journey through the love and loss of Khayyam’s friend, Abdurakhman-khan; the boisterous feasts at the Khan’s palace; the intrigues and assassination of the Grand Vizier Nizam al-Mulk by the hand of Hasan Sabbah’s followers; and Omar’s encounter with the maddoh-singer during his pilgrimage to Mecca, who appears to him as Saint Khizir, imparting the highest truth of life inherited from the Prophet himself.
This production is based on a highly complex literary work, Timur Zulfikarov’s poem “The Book of Revelations of Omar Khayyam”. Zulfikarov, a renowned Russian poet and novelist, and winner of the 1993 International Prize for "Best European Novel," crafted a masterpiece that critics have praised. The show, awarded "Best Production," owes much of its success to the directorial vision of Nabi Abdurakhmanov, who transformed the poem into a philosophical revelation on stage. Zulfikarov, upon seeing the production, admitted he had not expected such an interpretation—a brilliant, vibrant, and musically refined spectacle. He declared it “a magic of theater”, noting that Nabi Abdurakhmanov’s theatre is utterly devoid of insincerity or pretense of any kind.
The performance was first staged by a world-recognized director Nabi Abdurakhmanov at the Youth Theater of Uzbekistan and immediately won several prizes at international festivals. Nabi Abdurakhmanov also staged this performance with Israeli actors in the Beit Zvi Theater School at the Teatron Ramat-Gan.
